2013 Beehive Grant

If you've been thinking of getting your own hive of bees or expanding your already established apiary, now may be a good time to do just that. The Virginia Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for a 2013 grant that will cover up to $200 towards the purchase of a new hive or supplies to build a new hive. I will caution that the 2013 grant is not guaranteed to pass the 2013 budget negotiations come April. Therefore, don't go get a hive of bees just because of the grant, just in case it doesn't pass.

For guidelines and requirements click here for the VDACS website: Beehive Grant.

Also, if you're in the Southwest area of Virginia and would like to learn more about bees, some of the local bee clubs are hosting beginners beekeeping classes: Mountain Empire Beekeepers and New River Valley Association.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment and I'll get back to you!
